How We Began

In the mid - 1960's, the American Lutheran Church, Division of American Missions, completed a study that showed a church was needed on the north side of Owatonna because the population was moving toward the northern boundary of the city.  At the same time, Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Rose Street had come to the painful realizations that it faced a difficult future in its present location, especially if a new mission church was built on the north side of the city.

Rev. Russell L. Helgesen, Regional Director of the Division of American Missions ALC, worked closely with the church council to dissolve the Rose Street church and encouraged its congregation to become members of the new mission church, which became the present Our Savior's Lutheran Church on St. Paul Road.  Rev. Olin C. Fjelstad served as Pastor during the transition period.

Rev. Thomas Lee officiated at the first service on Sunday, August 27th, 1967.

Matthew 28:18-20
“Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
